Do you guys switch out choke tubes between Duck hunts and Goose Hunts or is there a choke that works equally well on both :?:

My recommendation is to get the Pattern Master Extended choke tube, that is the deal there........I use it for Geese, mallards, teal, divers.......its awesome, great pattern. I am sure some guys switch out tubes for different situations, but I don't, the pattern is pretty tight, and takes a bit to get used to....but its a great choke

I shoot a SBEII. Does pattern master make a choke for that model? Thanks for the reply

Paul,

PM makes tubes for that gun. Check them out at www.patternmasterstore.com

The patternmaster is a great choke tube.... Foiles and most all his guys shoot those all year long for ducks and geese.... .... i currently use and pro-staff for Wadwizard choke tubes.... not much different between the two, but i like it becuase its matt black and not ported.... i shoot the SWAT tube that wadwizard makes, its by far my favorite all around choke.... shoots awsome.... check out the website for them as well... wadwizard.com... sea

I'm with Big Sean on this one...I currently use the Wad Wizard tubes - both the SWAT12 and the SUPREME. I primarily use the SWAT12 for shooting ducks over decoys and the SUPREME for geese in every situation. Although I have found that the SUPREME has a tendency to punch holes in birds  . SO I may be using the SWAT12 more this season as an all around tube.

"Not much difference between the two." If I remember correctly that could be because they used to be the same company.

Either one are great tubes. I find the wad wizard does not back itself out as much. having said that though. The PM is what I shoot the most as it is in my goto gun.

Keep in mind that pattern master and Wad wizard are not true choke tubes. They are a more of a stripper tube and therefore do no constriction (choking) at all. Think of them more as an open cylinder tube with ports that slow down the wad, that in turn propel the shot forward with a "sling shot"effect. This keeps the wad from passing through the shot twice and causing holes in your pattern. Twice because the wad is lighter then the shot. Once the shell is fired the wad actually passes through the shot because it is lighter and flies faster. However, because it opens up the air grabs it and keeps it from going as far as the shot, letting the shot pass through it again. This can cause holes in your pattern.

There was a great article in Waterfowler a long while back (year or 18 months maybe) about the difference in constriction and stripper tubes.

Prepare yourself for a lot of misses when you get either one. You go from a 25 inch circle at 35 yards to pretty much a softball. OK, maybe a little larger, but it keeps em tight!

Can these chokes also double for Turkey? Or is that question for a different forum? Ha Ha

I use my SUPREME for turkey hunting....

The only tubes I use are the WW tubes. I do not use any of the factory tubes. If one is not in the gun, the other is. With the combo of these two tubes....there is no need for any others

You sure can. You will find the only "gaps" in performance will be with small shot. Say anything smaller then a 6.

I know that PM makes a turkey choke that is slightly different then their other ones, but not enough that I would justify spending the money. If you already have an X-Full or real tight turkey tube, then shoot what you know for this spring season. I personally would not change them out without patterning and learning what it is going to do.

I use the Wad Wizard Supreme, as Mark said messy at times so I recently bought the SWAT.
Wad Wizards are not ported so they are not as loud as a ported choke would be, and it doesnt have the tendancy to back out like other chokes.

For turkey I use a Rhino with a .660 constriction and its bad news on longbeards, but the supreme will work great and encouraged by the company.

WW has patterns on different loads posted on thier web site and customer service is top notch. Ask for Lorie and she will hook ya right up..

The patternmaster is the hot ticket, without a doubt, more BB's hitting the intended target at once. It's brutal - nuff said.

I use wad wizard swat in my nova. Choke takes a little bit to get used to because it shoots"tighter", but once you get used to it there are alot less cripples.

I have used the Pattern Master chock tubes for years, and they knock the $hit out the geese, and the ducks. They are the only way tho go.

I use the wad wizard swat also, they say it performs best at 20-30 yards, but it kills cleanly out to 45-50. try it you'll like it.

if you dont want to spend a lot on a chock tube the briley light mod. works good on ducks and geese. i dont know about useing it on snow though.

Schoff, I just got a PM for my SBE and am heading down to my dad's to try it on snows tomorrow night. They are jsut starting to kill them. They got 7 monday and 5 today(wednesday). I used a Briley light modified all season. Killed everything with it. It stayed in my barrel all season. Killed pheasants, ducks and geese with it. I know its a little looser than my factory modified cause I shot significantly better this year than past years. I know a light mod. seems too loose but it wasnt for me. I killed lots of ducks and gees close but lots of ducks and geese downrange too. I made several 40 yard+ shots on ducks and geese and killed 'em dead. I also killed a rooster dead with it in on my 4 and final shot!! Im guessing it was a good 45 yards away. Put I am anxious to see wht this PM will do and if I can hit anything with it.

I will put my vote in for the Patternmaster. I never take mine out. I have hit ducks so hard with it; that it will leave a bald spot on their backs from the impact. It is some crazy sh!t.

Dux 99, I hunt with several people that use PM's and I've seen some birds get smashed real bad too. Its great when it looks like a pillow exploded in the air!!! They sure do hit 'em hard. Im wanting to get a blue mounted so hopefully I can get a nice adult this weekend. Hopefully I don't tear a mounter up too bad. That would suck. I guesss Ill just stretch out my lead and try to hit 'em only in the head.

Never used a PM but have killed alot of geese on the 3rd shot at 50 +yards with a kick`s. I have one for my 1187 and for my Stoeger. I pattern them at 40 and 50 yards and a mallard won`t get through if I do my part. The other thing I like is if your gun doesn`t like it you can send it back. I don`t know if you can do that with others. These guys can help you there. Buy one that meets your likings and get use to it. I shoot for the head when they are under 30 yards. If you don`t there isn`t alot left with an ounce and three eigths of steel 1`s.

Thanks again for all the input. I just received my Pattern Master set today. Look forward to doing a little shooting this week. Maybe I'll get Hoosier Hunter to buy the Wad Wizard and then we can switch around.

I don't know! I've always known about PM, I hate to buy something not known! I think PM has a better reputation, and it sound like most guys like the PM, so I'm probably leaning towards the PM. For turkeys it sound like the Wad Wizard Supreme is the one, but I don't think I would want to use it for waterfowling? It sounds like the PM is the best all around.

Just curios on what % you guys get with your PMs. I shoot at 40 then 50 to see what the gun and tube is capable of. My 1187 shoots a 72% at 50 yards with a kick`s. My Stoeger has 68% at 50 in a 30 inch circle with a cmp-n-choke. Both shoot 1 and 3/8 oz. of #1 steel.
