I have many tapes, DVD's, etc. to show and explain to me how to call, and for some reason I really suck at learning how to do it. If there is anyone that has a good way of explaining it to me, it would be greatly appreciated. I haven't been around any other duck callers before so I haven't been able to see, hear, or pick up any tips. I don't want to be a green-wing FOREVER!!! I've been trying to learn for about 3 or 4 years and have duck hunted for about 30, and haven't progressed with the calling at all. I'm in Northern Michigan, does anyone around here give lessons?

I was the same way, when I first started, I tried everything everybody told me, and now I relize that what people say does not help. I mean, what everyone told me was the right thing, but its something you have to figure out with your own mouth. One day, I just got it and have been killing so many geese since. The thing that messed me up, was I think was I was trying to hard. I just started blowing it my own way regardless of what people where telling me, and it just came to me. Then you put in all the notes and growling that the people told you and put it all together. Dont try as hard, just start trying new things and it will come to you. I picked up Shawn Stahls "Honker Talk" and it helped me greatly as with a lot of the other calling videos.

yeah it is definately not an easy task to learn, i used to listen to people tell me what to do and id do it and it wasnt right, then i just took time and spent it practicing and practicing, just kept at it and eventually i picked it up, now everyone i know that wants to blow a call cant and they ask me for pointers and i give them to them and they cant pick em up, i just told spend time alone calling and calling, practice is what makes it, and its hard to learn, but it is also hard to teach, good luck man

I first learned by listening to a Buck Gardner tape. I hate to say it, but I think he is the best duck calling teacher there is. He is real easy to follow, and I think pretty simple with his directions. So if you don't have one of his tapes, I'd get one of those.

The CD's and DVD's Jeff Foiles has out are real good too, I have learned a lot from them, I listen to the CD's in my truck when I'm driving, and will frequently be practicing a call, I think half the people I pass think I'm smoking crack or something, but it is a great way to learn and practice.

Well boys I did get pulled over. The officer indeed thought I had some kind of drug pipe. He was fairly new and the other officer with him was a duck hunter and got quite a chuckle out of him smelling my SMH.
As for you Griz practice is the name of the game and the best teacher is a live ducks just doing there thing. Jeff has footage of live birds on most of his instructional videos. Also hit refuges and parks you want to hear feeding chuckle go to a park or similar place where there are live birds dump some corn or grain and stepback with a camcorder and shoot your own footage. But hey thats just my two cents worth....
