Hey guys,

Just picked up my six week old black lab male yesterday. I think we're leaning towards calling him Maximus or Max for short. He's gonna be a big ol' boy too. His dad is a solid 100+ lb dog. Got to see both of the parents and fell in love with their temperment. Cant wait to get him all grown so he can run down those monster birds we love to hunt instead of me!! If I can figure out how to post a picture, I will give it a try. Take care everyone.

Max, I like that name, how about Max4Gooser instead of Maximus.

Congratulations on the new pup.

Thats kind of why I also picked that name. Since its very closely related to my camo of choice!!

Im having a horrible time keeping him quite in his crate. Bark, yelp and more barking!!! Never had that trouble with my other labs. Any ideas guys???

just let him run around the house all the time. thats what i did with my golden retrieverand she is a hustler. but i also let her outside every three hours or so at night. just my opinion.

No Bark Collars worked real well for me. Might as well get him used to a shock collar if your going to be training him to hunt.

ive had two flat coated retrievers in my life and the one now is almost 2 years, when the first one was a pup never really barked in his cage, and loved it, now the one now i got Bentley, when he was barking and whining in his cage as a pup, i would just spend my time around the cage leaving him in it but take the top off and pet and take care of him until he would calm down and then fall asleep, then he would wake up take him out bring him and a play a little and do the whole routine over again, now he loves his cage, say cage when i go out and hes in it, just gotta spend some time with him while hes in his cage and just relax him

Thanks for the tips guys.......I havent been training dogs forever but Ive had a few and I dont think Im going to put a bark collar on a brand new 6 week old puppy that is having withdraws from his litter and parents. Seems a little extreme to me. I think with a little patience he will be just fine. Hes sure giving the wife's cat hell, thats for sure!!!! Thanks again everyone

i have always heard to put either an alarm clock that ticks or a radio near the cage and it works. might be worth a shot
