This past summer I dug 2 small ponds in my pasture to atttract some geese and it worked pretty good because there were a bunch of days when there were geese on it. This year I have an excavating guy coming in with a backhoe and bulldozer to make one huge pond and the grea tthing is that they are doing it for free just for the black dirt. The area is a natural low spot that has water in it in the spring but always dries up so I am not worried about it drying up now. I am so excited for it. I might put a underground pit blind by it by using a big old tank that my neighborso said I could have for free that could hold about 4 or 5 people. or I just might not hunt it all and let it be a safe haven for the geese because all of the ponds in the area get jumped a lot and the geese move out of the area. I have permission on all the land around the pond so that might work out better. I will post some pics once it is all done. I just thought I would share my summer project with you guys to see what u thought. any ideas or pointers for me would be appreciated. thanks

As we mentioned before on goosefuge I would use it as a mini refuge, and not hunt it until the last day or two of the season. It sounds like you will have a hell of a set up. Good luck.

Hey - make sure to post pics when it is complete. I'd like to see that -- I have some ideas for my own 'pond' and I'd like to compare.

I know a guy who has a windmill on his pond to keep it open. He had a major kill off on fish before he put in the windmill. It keeps the pond open and holds some birds. I think it was about a grand to put in, but has been a good investment from what I have seen.

Dux 99. Can you get the information from your buddy about his windmill? We have a spot to keep open, but it was going top be around fifteen hundred. Thanks

I guess I should have double checked my facts before I put that post up Paul. I checked into it and the website that I found had the smallest windmill they have (12') listed at $1400. I know that this is the size that the guy I know has and it has worked well for him. His pond is fairly small ~1- 1/2 acres. I listed the website that I found at the bottom of the page.
