Oh Lord.......Here we go!!!!! I love these forum topics.
I got an 03' Silverado when I came home from Iraq. It was loaded to the teeth with Z-71 and everything. Every vehicle I owned was a Chevy until last fall. I went into a Ford dealer and asked why I should buy a Ford. Well after a couple of hours I walked off the lot with a new F-150 and I absolutely love it. Drove it everywhere this winter in pretty much every driving condition and it handled great. Good torque, power, it rides like a Lincoln Towncar and its absolutely quite as can be inside the cab. All I can say is get out there and try them all. Fact of the matter is every truck out there has its positives and negatives. If I left Chevy for Ford, anyone out there can atleast keep an open mind to the other brands. Local service departments also played a role in my choice. Ask around your area if people have had good or bad luck with different service depts. Good luck

I have owned several fords, a chevy and a Nissan, and my current choice is my new Dodge. I love the Dodge's. They are tough, comfortable, look good, and have all kinds of power, only down side is the MPG's, they are a little low compared to others. Anymore I think they all make a good truck, and it comes down to personal taste. Me I will never buy another Chevy truck again, between not having any luck with the one I had, and the financial problems they are having, which has driven down their resale. I would consider a new Ford, but will probably stick with dodges, I have 2 right now.

I have a 97' F-150 4.6L Triton V8 and I love it. I like Chevy if it is set up right. Jclasen's truck is and example of what I would buy if I got a chevy. My family is mainly FORD. I like fords because they are rugged and look great.

I have owned all makes, I also was a car salesman for one of the local chevy dealerships here in town. I wouldn't trade my Dodge diesel for any other truck, My Chevy had a few transmission problems other than that it was a good truck.

I currently drive a chevy but would deffinately consider a ford. my next truck is probbaly gonna be a 3/4 ton and right now ford has the deal. those trucks are sweet lookin. the chevys arent bad either but after driving both id more than likely go with a ford. if i decide to go with a half ton its gonna be a super crew f150 fx4. dodge would be a last resort.

Ford, Ford, Ford, Ford and Ford! If you want a real truck buy a Ford Super Duty Diesel, it's tried and true, by far above all the others! I have 2 friends with brand new Dodge Cummins Diesels, each under 10,000 miles and both of them have had nothing but problems with them. I think Chrysler has the best styling going on vehicles, but they build cheap vehicles, they don't hold up over time. Chevy trucks are fine if you want a car to drive, but if you're really looking for a truck buy a Ford! You'll thank me later!

my dad has a 99 f-150 lariet and it is just awsome. i drive it a lot and i am going to get one in the next few months. but i like the look of the chevys if you the Z-71. just remember your buying it so buy what you want, not what your parents or friends want.

hey guys, i have owned and still do a 92, GMC with a 4 inch lift and 35 mud tires on it and i have a Ford expidition 03' with the 5.4 triton and that thing bogs down when i pull my plate boat, but that boat is one big boat, but it does not do very good. I have BFG All TERRIAN underneath and that things has been stuck more times. That GMC has only been stuck once and that was becasue we ran it through a small pond, it made it through till we poped a tire. That GMC has the badest gas motar out there, but if you are looking for tourqe, pulling power, and a allaround bad to the bone truck DODGE CUMMINS, that thing is evil, I set my girlfriends truck up to the 655 horses with 765 lbs of torque at the rear wheels. She has money so it was not problem, she just asked dad, it is a good deal because i get to drive it all the time. Let me tell you, you can hear her coming from a mile a way. It also gets 23 miles a gallon. Man i am telling you you want to GET A DIESIEL AND A DODGE AT THAT.

When it comes to day in day out work truck and heavy duty nothing beats a Ford, it's track record is proven. The only flaw they have had is their brakes, but not any more. I'm really anxious for the brand new 07 super duties. Its complete redesigned from the ground up. Dodges look good and Cummins is a good motor, but I'll repeat Chrysler makes cheap vehicles, they don't hold up over time. The old Dodge trucks where pretty decent (87's -93). Chevys are down the crapper as far as I'm concerned, they are now a distant 3rd place. Duramax is a decent motor though, the best they've ever had.

as much as i love the sound of a 6.0 powerstroke with exhaust id have to kinda beg to differ on the track record part. i give the 7.3 its due thats a damn fine motor. the 6.0 was ridden with problems from day 1 and still is 3 years later. I know guys with 6.0s that have gone through 3 turbos. one truck has less then 20 thousand miles on it. duramaxs on the other hand with the exception of the early injector issues havent really had a lot.
hoosierhunter
03-07-2006, 08:47 PM
The 6.0L had problems that first year, which is to be expected with a new motor, but they have worked those problems out. As far as turbos, that must be a fluke thing, you never hear about the turbos being bad. The 6.0 liter diesel is a great motor! Cummins shot them selves in the foot by going to the V8, they should have stuck with the straight 6. Duramax is a good motor, but when it comes to fuel econ. and power it don't stack up to the Stroker or Cummins. If Dodge could build a quality vehicle to put that motor in it would get a vote from me, but they don't. Chevy is catering to the yuppy city folks with their (car) trucks! I've know a lot of old Chevy guys who have converted to Ford now! And I know quite a few guys with new Dodges who wish they had bought a Ford. There's nothing wrong with the 6.0 stroker diesel, anyway, Ford is putting a brand new motor in the 07, anxious to see it!

03-07-2006, 08:58 PM
check out any ford forum on the turbo lol it aint a fluke sadly. Is it official cummins is gonna be a v8??? i heard rumblins of thier new motor gonna come out with 325hp and 700 somethin tourque. and ill give u the fuel econmy part the guy i deer hunt pulls a camper with his dmax and dont get very good mileage at all. And IFS SUCKS!!! On the dodges their biggest downfall is the tranny behind it unless you have a stick. The new ford motor got pushed back it wont be out now till 08 supposed to be a 6.4 twin turbo powerstroke should be interesting. :D Before long with all these hp tourque wars 3/4 ton and 1 ton trucks are gonna have cats detroit and the big cummins in them.

03-07-2006, 09:08 PM
Yeah, Dodge is going to V8 to compete. That was the only saving grace to it was the straight 6's longevity. I really think the new Fords are going to be awesome, alot of the new technology was worked out on the new F150s, and you don't hear any complaint about them! Chevy is really going to have to get on the stick! It's hard to be a Chevy man right now! :D . They just need to build a truck! Stop trying to build a sport truck! GM is in the crapper right now anyway, the resale on the Chevys suck right now! I think everyone would agree the Duramax chevy is a adequate truck, but really it is lagging far behind the Fords and Dodges.

Yeah I'm gunna have to agree. Just last month I was using my F-150 for a demo job. My dad had an old barn on his farm, we decided it was time for it to go away so we hooked a log chain up to my truck and pulled away. That old barn came crashin down! After falling victim to my FORD it recieved a kerosene bath and about two hours later had the bobcat out cleaning up the remains.

Question Why is Ford changing the POWER Strock again? Is it because when they build any boost they blow out there head gaskets? I know some Ford owners that are having that problem and Ford told them that they are change there motors. I think this will be the 4th time.. You can't make a gas motor a DIESEL. RAM IT DON'T be STROKE'N IT. In the horse power and torque war Chevy is going to have to change there motors to, They have them punched out as much as they can and they are going to fall behind. When Dodge changes there horse power and torque all the have to do is change the programing in the computer. Don't get me wrong Dodge has there problems to I just haven't found them. Maybe its in there trans. I have my 04 chiped and have a couple other things done and its been a good one so farr.

Best part is I dont have to shut it off to hear people at the drive through in the bank or getting some lunch. Oh ya...oil changes are cheap, fuels cheaper, I dont have to plug it in when its cold, it doesnt stink when it runs and I can service it.
If I were buying a diesel I would buy a Dodge though. Those motors are tried and true.

Someone said something about the V8 Cummins. Those engines have been around for a very long time, heavy equipment and marine diesel engines.
hoosierhunter
03-08-2006, 02:55 PM
I did. Cummins big truck engines have always been a straight 6 which has a lot longer life span. Cummins new light truck engine is going to a v8, they are going for the acceleration of the v8 to compete with the others. Powerstroke has always been a v8, there are alot of marine v8 diesels, but for longevity the striaght 6 is much better. I had some friends with the old Dodge it was a 87 or 88 with the Cummins, that was a good truck, he got over 300,000 miles on it w/o any major problems. But not the new ones won't do that. They will take off quicker though. Cummins builds great motors, but Chryler don't build the quality vehicles to go with them. Which is too bad! I've always been a Mopar fan. I have a 72 Dodge Dart Swinger with a 340, it was my first car, and I love Mopar muscle cars. They have the best styling going on now, but the product they produce is cheaply built. Interior trims crack and fall apart quick, alot of rattles and just cheap parts. Chevys are well built but the lack of power and heavy dutiness hurts them. Ford is still the best bet hands down! Here is the ultimate truck, a Ford superduty with a Cummins inline 6 diesel, wouldn't that be nice! I like the 6.0 liter, but I liked the 7.3 better. The new one will be awesome!

LOL smart man on the clutch. its like why dump all that money in chips etc into and try and submit the stock clutch to it. which banks you runnin the 6-gun or do u have the ottomind tuner. Banks has a lot of good products but a lot of times its all hype. edge has a hella chip for all 3 engines.
hoosierhunter- your right on most of them being inline 6's. there are some v8s out there but very few. im a union aprentice heavy equipment operator.

My buddy, is a diesel junky, he has a Dodge Ram , a Chevy Suburban and an old Scout Travelor Diesel he restored, plus a couple of other diesel toyas like an old fire engine, a tractor, and a Tour Bus. But the funny thing is the Old Intyernational Scout has a factory installed, original equipment Nissan Diesel Motor. The japaneese imports have had diesels for a while, just not to many made them to our country. I don't see Toyota steeling the diesel market form the BIg 3 US companies.
