A Labradoodle is a mix breed between a poodle and a Labrador. A white or silver Lab is nothing more than a yellow Lab which is snow white in color. It is not a recognized color, it is just a genetic thing. Some dogs are whiter than others. If you are looking for a good pet and hunting retriever the Lab is your best bet. Golden retrievers are too scatter brained. Cheasepeake Bays are good hunting dogs, but too big and hairy, and are a little aggressive to be a good family dog. Brittany's make good retrievers, but still are not necessarily the best family dog. Labs are definitely the all-around best. When picking out a pup, check which one gets on best with the others, check their hearing, some people rattle a can with change in it, the pups that are scared or run away you don't want, the ones who don't mind it you want. In other words you are looking for a dominate type personality for a hunting dog. You don't want a soft dog. The background of the dog is important too. Check it's parents, ask to see the parents and check them out. Check the lineage of the dog, any hunting background or champions in past. As far as color, I think it is preference. In some cases black dogs hide better than yellows, and vice versa. When you are handling a dog in long distances, sometimes the blacks are easier to see. I have a yellow and I wouldn't trade him for the world. He's a little soft, but he handles great and is a perfect gentleman in the blind. Good luck and I hope this helps.

Out of 23 puppies 2 litters we pick the most docile one. Funny how everyone says man that is the mellowest lab I have ever seen.
If you want a active one get one that is not afraid. If you want one to be mellow get a docile one.
My breeder let me have first pick because I explained what I wanted and knew it would have been last pick anyway.
