I'm thinking about getting a collar for my Chessie, to break some bad habbits and sharpen up his skills for the up coming season. I've never used one and have had great success so far without, but I feel as if we've hit a wall in training. The basics are solid and on point. It's the distance discipline that lacks. Any input, help, or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

JUST MY OPINION...... e-collars can be a great way to save time when training, but you had better to be prepared to hunt that dog with the collar on for the rest of it's life! Dogs are a lot smarter than we think and they will learn the difference when they're wearing a collar and not. I have not personally trained a retriever with an e-collar but my experience with coonhounds has led me to this belief. I had my lab trained by a professional and he didn't use any e-collar or force fetch training. I couldnt be happier with the results (a lab hunting for praise and not out of fear). There are no shortcuts with training just tons of obedience and repetition! Like I said just my opinion.
yep i use an e collar all the time from when he was a pup, and he's 3 now if you looking for a good collar use the tritronics sport50, went through 3 innotecks in 2 seasons, once you dog gets use to it its all the differance in the world just dont abuse it!!! and turn it down when your dog is wet cause they will know it when you hit the button ( ever seen a dog do a back flip!!!) when your dog is dry start out on a lower setting and turn it up till they just feel a little nick and you see the flinch and go on from there , if you poke the living **** out of them first time they could turn on you, most of the time now i just put the collar on him turned off he don't know it unless i tell him wanna get rapped! or show him the transmitter and its good dog time.
if you need any training advise or tips send me a PM and we will get together
