While I`m here I want to thank everyone for all their help. It wasn`t as hard as I thought it would be going from a flute. It only took about 2 weeks until I can make all the sounds consistantly. Never had a call sound so good! It is a little touchy with tongue placement vs. a flute but I`ll never go back. Once again THANK ALL OF YOU for all your help. I`m buying a MG for my brother for christmas so he can give up his flute. Maybe if he`s nice a SMH.

Congrats on your new call Dean, don't give up on the flute totally, I still take my Meatcutter with me on every hunt, it is a great call to have when the birds are shying away from the Short Reeds.

Yeah dont give up on the Flute. I started with the SMH and other shortreeds, I decided that I wanted to try a flute the Meatcutter was the ONLY OPTION duh! I couldnt get any dealers around here to order one it without me purchasing it. Well when gander mt. was havin a sale this winter I tracked a numbered MC down and I absolutly love it. My flute got kingkilla addicted and he purchased one a couple of weeks ago. I carry alot of calls w/ me. It never hurts to be versed in every tool out there. If you want a good, LOUD, flute go with the meatcutter. It is a awsome call! I would never give my SMH up but if the birds arent working with it you can turn them head over heal to get um' on the ground. Not to mention if you have ever watched a goose fly away and hit um' with a comeback on a flute the reaction is almost immediate!

COngrats and NO thanks needed!!!! Always glad to help a brother out!!!

As for the flute...good advice above...stay versatile. Keep that flute around. There have been a few days when I have thrown everything I have at them and they just won't respond...those days I wish I could blow a flute call (and had one  )!!!

The more weapons you have the better off you will be!

Dean, Glad to hear everything worked out for you.....it is a different animal to tackle, but it takes persistence. Like the rest said, I think the same, don't get rid of that flute. But, if you are looking to replace your existing one for a great sounding flute call, try a Meat Cutter, like Mark said, those days when the short reed ain't gettin em in your face, pull out the MC....it's a great trick to pull out.

If you have any other questions, don't hesitate to ask....

I know birds like different stuff on different days but do you think I should buy my brother a meatcutter instead of having 2 short reeds calling? He was more die hard than I toward a flute but can call as good or better than me with my smh. I`ve never heard a meatcutter, do they sound as good as a smh? He wanted to try one when I bought my smh but they didn`t have one in stock. We always ran different calls before . I think you just gave me a great idea. Just wanted some opions.

Boy, thats kind of a tough one....for me personally, I would say go with the short reed for both of you, unless he wants a Meat Cutter. Its all about choices, if you are able to have more than one short reed and a flute on your lanyard, thats great, you have options and other things to try. If you can only afford to have one goose call on your lanyard, I would say definitely a short reed. The short reed is much more versatile in most respects. Not taking anything away from the Meat Cutter, it is a great call and has a sound all its own that is unmistakable, I carry one with me whenever in the goose field.

As far as both of you having one, that is not a big deal, I hunt with a group where we all blow short reeds 95% of the time, I am the only one that uses a flute in the field. Sometimes I use it just for fun, or to have a different sound, or sometimes it seems geese wanna here it, all depends. Perhaps in you and your brother's situation, you could buy him one of Foiles' other short reeds. The MH is higher pitched and will give you different sounds than the SMH, the new call coming out is supposed to rock......maybe you wanna go that route....and then when you have the money or desire to get back on a flute, buy a Meat Cutter. Bottom line is you will not be disappointed with any of the calls in Jeff's line, they're great. Let us know what you decide.

Oh ya, almost forgot....the Meat Cutter does sound quite different from any of the short reeds. You can check them out on the website, go to the main page, then the products tab, and then sound files, I think nearly all the calls are on there....check em out.

I don't know, kind of rambled on and am all over the board here, but, hope this makes sense to you.....

Thanks Nick that was awsome! I didn`t know that was on here. I`m kinda new to this computer stuff. You weren`t rambling, I understand completely. I`ll let him decide. I like shot reed sounds but maybe down the road get a meatcutter. Thanks again.
