Has anyone ever seen a resident pair of nesting lessers in your area?
If so, any clues as to why there are not more or none? Usually just the bigger boys are seen.
The reason why I ask these questions is you will see around Sept 10th till the end of the early season we will start getting them (at least here in ND), guys will shoot some, and people will "preach" not to do it and how the season is just for resident birds. How can they prove the lessers were not residents?
Is there a law saying you can't shoot 5 lessers in the early season?

It's a 'resident' season but the bag is established at 5 canada geese without limitations as to subspecies (except for probably Oregon coastal areas, butI'm not sure of they get a resident season there). for the most part the lesser subs tend not to establish local resident populations, but I don't know the reason for this - biological migratorry drive I suppose.
bottom line - the season is open for canada geese - shoot what comes in if you want to. At the heart of it, the season is supposed to decrese the number of nuisance birds, so certainly an argument can be made that one ought to shoot birds other than lessers to assisst with that, but you're legal to shoot little ones if you want and if they're around...

I'll make sure to ask for a current address before I pull the trigger this year..... Hate to shoot a bird that was on vacation.
