Im lookin for a new goose call and i love the way the straight meat honker sounds but its the only on i have heard. And with the market honker and the others im not quite sure what to get. What my question is is what would u say the best goose call is, the one that provides the best and most sounds and is also somewhat easy to blow?

ross

also one more thing, and its kinda stupid to ask this on this page but is there any other calls i should look at, or is foiles hands done the best?

My opinion Foiles is hands down the BEST! They have the best warranties and product support on all of their calls, acrylic or poly carb. The first Acrylic call I purchased was the SMH(Strait Meat Honker). It was the easiest call to blow of all the brands I tried. The SMH is a visually appealing call compared to ohers. The SMH is a very adaptable call. The great thing about foiles calls is that all their short reeds are blown the same way. Once you learn how to blow one of his calls it transfers over to the others.
I would start out with the SMH just because it was the first one to come out and I don't think foiles has came out with another call that sounds like it or even comes close. Learn how to blow the SMH and then move on into more of his calls. Each one sounds like a different goose so it isn't like you have three calls that sound the same. I have been using my SMH for almost a year and it has been a great call. I have just now began to purchase more of his calls. Beware these calls are addicting! I now own 4(1 Duck, 1 Short Reed, 1 Flute, and 1 Snow Goose) and have 2 more(1 Duck, 1 Short Reed) waiting for me at a local shop.
As for warranties I believe that the Acrylic calls are Life Time and the Reed a year. The Poly Carb are 1 year. All the other calls that I researches they only have 1 yr warranties.
Hope this helps you in you decision. TEAM STRAIT MEAT! all the way!

I second Iowa Mig8tor's recomentation for the same reasons he has stated....Strait Meat Honker won't let you down...I'm an addict myself

I currently have 7 SMH's, 2 HighPlains Honkers, 2 Market Hunters, 1 Meatgrinder, 1 TundraSaver, 1 Strait Street , 1 TimberRattler and 1 Legend

I REALLY do need some help!

Once you have one of each then you will have to get every color combination

I too believe they are the best call out their, hands down. I have been goose huntin for well over 20 years, and have used a lot of calls over the years from some of the top names in the business, and when I tried my first foiles, I became addicted as well. They are hands down the best sounding calls out their, they have a great staff and customer service department, and when the duck and goose season is over, You can call Jeff himself for advice on using your call. He is hard to find durring huntin' season.

Oh go with the SMH, unless you are an old flute caller, then get the Meat Cutter, it is hands down the best sounding flute I have ever used.

HPH sounds great. I am the type of person who is loyal to their call maker, so I would have to say go with Foiles. However the only way you can know is to get your hands on one. Each person sounds different on a call.
GO WITH FOILES!!!!!!

There's no comparison...Jeff's calls are easily the best sounding, easiest blowing calls on the market. They can do it all..loud..soft..crisp and clear. Might as well grab ya a timber rattler while you're at it! That call has seen alot of ducks die while around me neck!

Honestly you can't go wrong with any of the higher end calls if you ask me. The ease of blowing a call, all comes down to how the call is tuned and that can be changed along with the pitch of the call. I would say you need to blow a few and decide what you want to sound like first. I started on a meat grinder and man it was tuned hard and it took a while to figure it out. I hated blowing that thing at times but in the end it enabled me to be able to blow just about any call out there.

I am still a big fan of half breeds. They take a lot to figure out but man do they sound good with the right person behind them. :) So get out there and blow a few and see what "you" think. You are the one that will have to have confidence in the call.

If you can find a pro staffer in the area it is a major bonus. :) He can tune the call to your liking and make it as easy as you want it.

I didn't like the HPH's that I blew. They seemed high pitched like I had my SMH tuned so I really didn't have a need for one. If you are looking for a higher pitched call it may be for you. What are you going to hunt and where will you be hunting should have more weight then what is the easiest and best call. Good Luck and have fun with it. :)

Another thing that gets overlooked in comfort. Does the call feel good in your hand? Does it fit your mouth right? I know that sounds wierd but it's important. That was my major gripe with the half-breed. After a full day of hunting my lips were hammered by the sharp edges. I have a hard time with the calls that have big flared ends as well. They just dont feel right to me. Just a few things to think about.

Let's put it this way...i'm a better duck caller when it comes down to it, whether competition or in the fields, but I can pick up my Meat Grinder or SMH and sound like a goose w/ minimal practice. I have been honing my skills on it recently and Jeff has helped me tremendously w/ that, but when it comes down to it...stick to the simple things..you don't have to blow a competition goose..or duck routine to kill 'em! Good luck to ya!
