Ive been workin at a power plant shut down job for the last week and the whole time im there there are just 100s of ducks and geese flying around all the time. makin me really antsy

this is the perfect time of year to see birds, deer or anything else that is off limits. it is almost like they know you cant touch them, and are laughing at us. all i can say is i hope they stick around long enough to make table fare out of them.

Straitmeatshooter, I know exactly how you feel. It's warm enough here in Iowa that I think all the honkers around now will end up being locals. I saw 2 white collars mixed in with a whole flock of leg banded birds right in town about 2 weeks ago. Im gonna freakin' pattern them before season, kinda like deer hunting. Me and the boys will be waiting to get 'em come September 1st here in central IA!!! 3 bird limit for the early season too!!

Yeah if ya want my opinion, we get screwed over bad here in Iowa. We have a regualar season 2 bird a day limit. Its kinda a waste to set all the dekes up for 2 birds, 1 flock if they'reclose at all. And there are geese everywhere lots of the time and we get stuck with a 2 bird limit.

Take a kid hunting.
I bring one 11 year old and one 12 year old double our limit.

So you shoot your kids birds?
Whenever I take a kid of hunting age I never fire a shot until after they do. And by no means would I ever fill their limit.

So after a kid hits a goose "butt shot criple" you would not finish it off for him.
I do not believe in letting them fly away with pellets in them.
The kid is excited they hit them. We get to clean up. They both use 20 gauge single shots.
How many would you let them cripple in a day?

I hear you man, if I hit a bird that I know I got a few bb's in, I'll shoot the rest of my shells at the bird intill it falls, instead of going onto a closer bird and hoping the first will drop.

I am not trying to attack you personally. I just disagree with the post. You posted that taking kids hunting would allow you to double your limit....
"I bring one 11 year old and one 12 year old double our limit."
You insinuated that you were taking kids so that you yourself (and buddy I presume) could double your limit.
Batting cleanup is one thing, doubling your limit is another. In my opinion... if they are butt shooting their limit of birds every time out and you are forced to clean up every goose they shoot then one might spend some time at the range, or letting the birds work into a higher percentage shot for them. Once again... my opinion. And that goes for anybody, of any age group. I have buddies that can't hit a goose at any range. They hunt them once or twice a year and never adjust to the 'look' they are getting. They are deceived by the speed of those big birds and shoot behind them every time they come in. When they hunt with me I have to sit the birds. Then spoke them so that they can shoot them as they come up off the ground. I still get to shoot my birds, don't have to bat cleanup, and they get the thrill of hitting, and dropping their birds.
