I was out hunting geese last Sat. and we saw a few. Not as many as we usually see this time of year on account of the high water.

We drove the Big Muddy levee from Rt 3 to the north end of Oakwood Bottoms and saw nothing but 2 or 3 woodies. The river is up and flooded into the weeds but we saw no teal whatsoever. It has really been dry here. I may drag the boat out tommorrow and go check the lake.

The IKC was supposed to go to my dad's in Illinois this past weekend, but I had to work on Saturday so we didn't go. Usually, limits of 4 a piece are taken very easily at my dad's on the first weekend, but my dad and 3 other guys killed 5 teal total on saturday. The 3 of us killed 4 honkers, so I'm kinda glad we didn't go.

Here are some pics of opening weekend in Missouri, across the river from Calhoun. In the third pic, our dog has 2 greenwingers in her mouth.

This is a picture of the hunt this morning near Henry, IL. We ended upi with 14 teal and 7 geese. Mostly Bluewings with one greenwing. One of the better early season hunts I have ever had.

That's a hell of a start to a season! Iowa early duck opens this weekend so hopefully it'll be pretty good. I think there's going to be 6 shooters in my uncle's blind so hopefully we can bang 36 out.....we were done with 36 last year in about an hour.....I couldn't even touch my barrel it was so hot.

I got a little ahead of myself and had to eat some humble pie yesterday. Four of us ended up with 7 teal  Not a bad shoot; but not the shoot I expected. There are wads of teal in the corn fields of the club I hunt; but they are off limits per the boss at this point. Oh well; we are still having a pretty good season with 71 teal. It would be nice to make it to 100 by Sunday. We could use a few new birds to get that done. I wish geese were still in. We had one about land in the boat yesterday morning.
