I have a 26" barrel for my Beretta 3901. I want to go with a longer barrel but i have to go to 30". will i gain much more distance with the longer barrel?

They say now a days you dont get any advantage with a longer barrel its just your swing that gets affected. With all the chokes out there you can pretty much make your gun pattern any way you want by just choosing a different tube. If you have shot a 26" barrel for a while i would have to say stick with it just try out some different choke tubes. If you want distance try the extented range patternmaster.

yes, there will be a change in distance.
If you go from a 26" barrel to a 30" barrel you will be about 4 inches closer to the birds.

haha love your comment about the 4 inches closer. but how does that relate to the lead? and if so what other chokes can i try besides a PM. i cant really afford a PM at this time but i still want the effectiveness w/o the cost. i mean are they really worth it?

Read tripleb's posts on this link. He discusses the isssue a little bit...and if you read all his posts he seems to be well read about shooting guns...but take it for what its worth.

Lead of bird depends on to many variables. Only years of shooting can answer that question for you.
direction of flight, distance, speed of bird, wind speed, etc all play viable roles. Not to mention the different shooting types. Are you a swing shooter or spot shooter?

If you are a spot shooter, or like to get your gun up quick and not hold the bead in front of the birds, stick with the 26" barrel. If you like to hold a swing, go with the longer barrel. You should be able to get a 28" barrel for that.

you will get faster speeds out of your shells. You actually get the speeds that the box says.

Yes but only very slightly. The great majority of acceleration of the load occurs within the first 10 to 12" of the barrel.
