Is there such a thing as to much motion in a spread? I've got some of those carry-lite one piece shells and some motion stakes, can I over do the motion aspect of a spread? Thanks

As far as the movement of the shells on the stakes goes I don't think so as long as the motion is reasonable. So far it has helped me. If you have all the shells rocking all over wild in a high wind then maybe it would be a problem, but the motion stakes and shells I have don't move unusual amounts even when fairly windy. If I think it is starting to be a problem I just push the stakes down lower so the shells hit the ground more to limit the movement or put the shells so corn stalks limit the movement. I don’t have them all on motion stakes so they are not all moving. Some are on regular stakes and some on the ground resting so it’s a mix of things.

here is my take that I have learned from the owner of the guide service I work for....movement is over-rated...especially running smaller spreads, I would trade ultra realistic decoys over deeks without alot of movement....flagging at a distance is good but too much bobbing and moving is just more of a chance to keep geese skittish into flying into a spread...realistic deeks shoot geese around these parts...and a good hide of course...joe

Depends on the birds you are hunting.
Hunting larger canada's (10 - 16 pounds) we have our best days running 20% - 35% motion in a spread.
the squeaks tend to eat up more motion. When chasing those we'll run 60 - 75% motion.
