I had to drive down to St. Louis today to pick up My sister, brother-in-law, and nephew at the airport, so I went a little earlyand checked out Bass Pro. Somehow by the time I left I had me a little early christmas present in the form of a new Bourban and Water SMH. With that said I have a new dilemma, which one next SM Cackler or Tundra Saver, or how about a market hunter?

Merry Christmas Everyone!

I would ask myself what is needed first and go from there. If you are just buying them for the hell of it, buy the Market Hunter in wood and a cackler in acrylic with a tundra in acrylic and send them up my way. lol :P

Smoke, I actually did look for the meat grinder, but didn't see any. They where pretty picked over in their waterfowl department. I went 55 to 270. Will be down in Greene next week to get my treestands out of the timber.

Max4-
did some feild huntin this afternoon over in east hardin. Where we set up was about strait east of godar diamond on the greene co side. boy did we pick the wrong side of the county. Numerous and ridiculously big groups of geese were flyin on the mississippi side. On the way to the field we jumped up 5 mallards 3 drakes and 2 hens. Ful blown green it was so cool seein the sun hit their heads. We were in the truck and our guns werent loaded so we didnt have a chance to get a shot and they didnt come back. If just seein that doesnt make someone want to duck hunt i dont know what will. I didnt even care that we didnt kill anything that right there made my day.

Smoke,

We hunted Sangchris this morning. Set up a divided spread ducks and geese with a landing area in between, right off the get go we had a group of 3 greenheads commit into the geese, and no one was ready yet, still ironing out some of the fine details, ended up shooting one smiley, had a few geese work our spread, but my buddy broke the remote system to his mojo's and they where flairing from them, ended up pulling them, but we had to leave early due to previous commitments of my buddy, so we missed when the Canadas really started fllying.

Hearing rumor that north and central zones are going to be closed on the 27th, have to try to figure out how to get away from the family for christmas and go huntin instead.

U mean they are gonna close goose season on the 27th????? I hope not i got to go one damn time. This season has been a train wreck if that happens. :? Just curious but where is sangchris?

Smoke, Sangchris is south east of Springfield, It is a powerplant lake and State park, couple thousand Geese or more, setting on it right now. I just read where they are expecting to fill the quota this weekend. Also hearing they are predicting southern zone to close by the 10th of January.

I know the feeling, I hunted deer to hard and to much this year myself. And the truth is I much rather have been duck or goose huntin' I am actually thinkin about putting my Fully loaded Mathews Switch Back on Ebay, so I will have an excuse not to deer hunt as much next year. I could take the money and put it in more decoys and calls.

Yeah im thinkin i may not even bow hunt next year. Takes away too much from duckn and goosen. And i pretty much always get one in shotgun season whether its a doe or buck and if not my cousin kills enough for the both of us so im sure i could get some meat form him.

Combination of the Quota Hotline, Duck Hunters Refuge, and Some Conservation Guys I know, and it was the talk at the Blind Drawing yesterday morning. I am hoping it is not true, I would like to hunt at least 10 more days this season. Even more would be better.

Bein farely new at goose scoutin when do think the best times would be for me to go out and scout. i was thinkin goin out around 8 or 9 and seein what they are doin and maybe parkin along the road and watchin for a while. then headin back out mid afternoon around 3-4? Ive noticed the last couple days that they really fly in the early evening dont have much on the mornin flights cause ive been to busy to watch. By the way the field lol well it turns out it could be some of my relation so permission might not be too hard.

This time of year the geese in my area startt moving around 10:00am and might not stop until around 4:30. The best way is to watch when ever you are out to find out what goin on with them. I am constantly watchin when ever I am on the road, best time to look is when you aren't lookin for them. Ha.

well it rained last night and is supposed to all day what will that do to the geese?

Max4Gooser

I agree with Iowa, I watch them all the time, whenever I am out, they have been flying between 10 and 11:30, If I was you I would be out in the rain if you can, keeps the birds a lower usually some of my best hunts have been in precipitation. Next year we will have to share a blind sometime.

Oh did you see the SJR this morning, it's official Central Zone closes Wednesday, and northern closes Thursday, then I predict thebig migration of northern and central zone hunters to the southern zone who might be closed out by the 10th.

Got permission to hunt the field, it actually belongs to some of my family so im good to go. Now that i know its closin im gonna be in there every day after christmas. Yeah well have to get together and do some duck and geese bustin next year. Im workin on some more fields that are close to the river that way if i get shafted on the duck blind again i can just go layout and kill ducks and geese. The fields im workin on for next year are strait east of godar diamond and godar smoked the ducks this year so hopefully it will pan out.

PS Just want to say have a merry (strait meat) christmas to you and your fam
