I am off to Horicon Marsh tomorrow for a 3 day goose hunt. I am real excited, it's the first time that I have traveled to hunt anything. From what I hear Horicon has alot of birds on it right now. Should be a great hunt!!!!!!!!!
Anyone else been there before???

My buddy just got back from there and he said that the geese are everywhere you look. He hunted ducks with some old friend and they tore them up!

there is thousands of birds in horicon...its usually not a problem to get your limit. i go to school at UW-madison and drive throu there all the time...between horicon and the waupon/beaver dam area there is a ridiculous amount of birds. its probably about the closest thing to canada depending where in the horicon area u hunt.

I had a great time. More birds than you could possibly count. They would fly all day everywhere you looked.
Here are some pics

If im not mistaken they are in Wisconsin and you buy tags for geese like you would for deer in other states.

The Horicon Marsh is the largest freshwater marsh in the world. It is located in Wisconsin, NE of Madison. The tags are similar to turkey or deer. We had to apply for the permits and we were alotted special tags for that season and in the Horicon area..
The other guys are friends of mine. This was my first time up there, two of the other had been going up there for a number of years and invited us up with them.

nice pics! It looks like you had a great hunt. My buddy wants to go up this weekend but I can't do it. Do you see a lot of other hunters?

Not too many at all
I think that you have to apply for a Horicon area permit though

yeah you have to apply for tags i believe its two a day and 8 total. I hunted the last season last year and we smacked um pretty good. We had 12 guys and everyone shot their limit in about a half hour. I have never seen this amount of birds anywhere that late in the season up here.

Did you guys freelance or did you use a guide

It was a hunt through the Indiana chapter of Waterfowl USA. The guides are members that volunteer every year. The land owners are real receptive to the hunt because the club donates a lot of money back to Horicon
