Long time forum stalker, but now thought I should get on the action around here. I am deciding on pruchasing a new call this year and was looking at a wooden one. I currently have SMH, meatcutter, and a markethunter in ayrlic and was debating on getting SMH in wood if it sounds different. Any input would help, because it is hard to find good info. around this region of Ohio on calls.

Cluckingmad,
welcome to the forum............wood calls definately have a different sound...and the different woods even sound a little different...check out the soundfiles section of the website and you can hear a couple wood calls there.....

in general...the wood calls have a more mellow sound to them...not as "sharp" as acrylic..........I'm sure others will have their own interpretation of the difference of sounds that may help you also....

hope this helps......

I personaly like the wood SMH with a acrylic insert. The all wood is good but you have to take better care of them. I woul definatly buy a wood call rather it be all wood or wood with acrylic. I like to use my wood calls when hunting over water it is a more mellow sound. I hope this helped you.

There is a thread in the General Discussion form title "Looking for an all wood goose call", this will give you some info on wood, density, performance, etc. Take a look at this and see if it answers your questions....and if not....post up again.

All wood calls are more mellow, wich is nice from time to time, I am planning on picking up a all burnt hedge MH myself at WW2. I think an all wood SMH would make a nice addition to your lanyard.
