I shot a goose this weekend, it was double banded, on it's left leg there was your typical band, but on the right it had a white plastic band. Is it a locator band (Visual)? We've asked a few guys and they say it could be a transport band. Let me Know.

I dont know for sure but here in northern indiana we shot four that had the white band and a regular band.We were told they were transported from another county

It would make sense because I'm in lower Michigan.

I was about ready to ask if you were from Indiana! We helped the DNR band some geese this year, and this is the first year they banded with the colored tarsus plastic leg bands. They are either white or orange, and they distinguish either a mature bird or juvenile at time of banding. They are banding these birds in urban areas where they are a nusance and trasnsplanting them all over the state to FWA in hopes that some of them will stay in the "wild" and not return to their urban areas, that is why the color coded bands, to see if the matures or juvenile birds will stay in the "wild", they are hoping for at least a 20% success rate. So your bird was banded somewhere in Indiana and moved to a state FWA. Congrats on the band!! I can't remember which was which on the color, mature or juvenile. Here is a photo from the banding process though.

it is a tarsal band. I have been looking for one sooo hard, but all I get are single bands! Send a few my way!

They didn't band them at Kankakee, they were banded all around the state in "problem" areas, mainly urban areas and then relocated all around the state to the FWA's of which Kankakee was one that got several of the birds.
