First of all hello,I have a Market Hunter that is not in tune. How do I get it in tune? I have a strait meat honker and it is very easy to blow, but the MH is not. I do not know if I am doing something wrong or if it is not in tune. { I know nothing about tuning calls}

thanks

If you dont know how to tune send it to the shop. But before you do, since it is already out of tune now might be a good time to learn.
In you guts you have a tone board, a wedge, and a reed. The tone board has a ridge cut into it for air to travel through. What I do is hold the tone board by my thumb and index finger. Now take the reed and place itover the board and hold it loosley with the same fingers. Now grab you wedge and figue out what direction the slant is. I then determine what "looks" good for the ammount of reed exposed, I like my calling to be easy//light and fast so I dont expose very much reed. Then you must make sure that the reed can fold smoothly into the tone channel w/o obstruction while also not eaving a huge gap between the opening in the channel and the reed. I then stuf it in the insert, make little adjustments so it falls perfect into the call. Try what you have done and then make changes. It can take a couple of times to get it where you want it.
But if you get frustrated and cant get it figured out send it to the shop, or catch a prostaffer in your area.

If you want to learn to do it yourself, buy Kelly's new DVD Art of War 101, he has a segment on how to tune your call, and it is GOOD! I gaurantee you'll learn to do it by watching it. If you are a very avid hunter, you really should learn to tune it yourself, in case it gets out of tune during season or out in the field. Hope this helps. You can buy the video on the Foiles online store.

Steelshot,

There are a couple of threads that you could take a look at and probably get an idea as to what needs to be done to get your MH tuned back up into form. The first one being on page 2 of Ask the Pro-Staff, it is titled "Meat Grinder Tuning" (this will apply to tuning any of the short reeds you have), and the second thread being on the first page of Ask the Pro-Staff, and it is titled "Call Tuning Theory/Method".

If either of these threads don't help, ask a more detailed question if there are problems and we can try and figure it out......or another idea would be to send it to the shop with a note and someone there will be able to get fixed up as well.

So give those a try, and let us know if there is something else we can do for you to get you back online with that MH.

Is there a posted list of pro staffers with their location? I want to know if there is someone in Atlanta, GA.

Theres a Pro-Staff list on the main page, I am in the process of updating bios and contact info. North Carolina is as close as there is though I think.

Foile's makes really user-friendly calls, i've found that its much easier to tune Foile's then some others. Grounds calls are very picky on reed positing and gap, it's not the same on all calls but for Foile's these guys definatly know their stuff. Im sure they could help you with any call but u'd have to ask specifically
