had put up a small post but haven't got on a pc in several days....I got a call on Thursday that my dad in Iowa had an anyourism that day and he was airlifet to Mason City Iowa...he had been diagnosed with terminal cancer 3 weeks earlier....I drove from Washington State to Mason City with my wife and kids in 23 hours...longest ride ever...my little brother flew in with his wife and my little sis drove up with her family from Silsbee TX...we made to say good bye to our dad...we spent saturday with him saying our last words....he died Sunday morning....it was hard but he has kept his terminal cancer to himself for a long time...didn't want my mom to worry...spent the last week helping my mom readjusting...now I am on my way home...in a hotel in Sheridan Wyoming....brought my dads ashes with me...he was a lineman and always wanted to be spread near some of the electrical towers he helped put up...I know the prefect ones the are close to the land owned by our guides service...that way he can watch over me and I can visit him...I will really miss him...joe

Joe, I'm really sorry man. Prayers sent out from central IA. That's really cool what you're doing with the ashes. When my grandpa on my dad's side of the family died, half of his ashes went in the Mississippi River and the other half were dumped in the pheasant field where we normally start out walking on opening day every year since I was 10. It's still weird him not being there with us.

There's never a good time to lose someone, but it's really tough around the holidays...

May your grief be short-lived, your rememberances of your Father fond, and may you find peace knowing he is no longer in pain.

It will be great knowing that everytime you're at your spot he is there with you. This verse by Mary Frye has always seemed appropriate to me, especially for waterfowlers.

Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there; I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow,
I am the sun on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there; I did not die.

Sorry to hear it, I lost my dad in 2002 He was a best friend a hunting buddy, and someone who you could talk to about anything, I think about him everyday, He loved to hunt as much or more than I do, but for you , Jeff, and myself and everyone else that has lost a loved one, they are in a much better place than we are..
