Had my one class for the morning cancelled, so I was thinking about going duck hunting, BUT then I decided with few birds around that I would hit some public land with a buddy and his 7 month on Vizsla/Lab mix for roosters. MAN DID WE SEE BIRDS! problem was that a lot of them were typical public birds and skittish. Still managed to scratch 4, should have had a limit but we missed two pot shots about stepping on the bird and getting thrown off. O well it was still fun and Kota did amazing. She pointed numerous birds and even is starting to get down how to cut off running birds.

This is what a patternmaster with 3" steel 4's will do to a rooster at about 15 yards flying right to left. On public ground we have to use steel, at least around here because there are so many water ways. In the above picture this bird is the one on the right.

I've done the same with a WW supreme at around 15 yards but I hit in the lower half so most of it all perfectly fine. Nice birds tho.

All we have shot so far have been this years hatch birds, some dont even have full color yet from a late hatch. The old public birds know the deal and how to get the hell outta there without ever being seen. Heck even the first years are starting to get the hang of it now.

After this weekend I think you will be seeing allot of migrators coming down. The cold snap is hitting us on wed with a NW wind. I know the end is near when I start shooting golden eyes.
