I was hoping somebody could help me out with this one. When i call with my SMH i have troubling getting a feeding growl or any guttural sound. I have a HS Hammer 2 goose call and i have no problem with it or my other SMH.

It's probably tuned different.

sounds like you may need to tweek the tuning a bit, but then again I am new to Short reed calls, been using flutes for last 20 years :)

The easiest way to get that growly, guttural sound out of any goose call is to do just that when blowing the call. now I don't mean just start growling into the call, but the inflection used into the call when you are trying to make those sounds is lower and you need to use the back of your throat when trying to get a lower, more growly honk out of your goose call. and as far as the the feeding growl goes, Foiles explains that the easiest, just pretend you are rinsing with mouthwash and gur gur gur....hope this helps.

I agree with Kelly. All those calls sound at least just a little different. Me and my buddy's sound alot alike but are still a little different. My uncle has one that is really deep sounding and mine is higher pitched. I dont really know what to tell ya cause mine is probably one of the higher pitched calls and I can growl and moan into mine quite well. I would just try grunting more.

Hey if you are looking for a gutteral sound and have some cash to spend go get a Meatcutter. But yeah try growlin more in the call and get the Foiles Callin DVD. But miller and kelly are right on the calls soundin different.

I would say for sure its the way its tuned for you.... most the calls tuned out of the shop are really good for the majority of people, but everyone is different on how they present air to the call.... if you are looking for more deep sounds the reed needs to be sticking out longer past the wedge.... you can try it yourself or send it back to Foiles Migrators shop and tell them excactly how you need it tuned.... you will be able to get a deep grumble sound from every call that Foiles makes.... any ?s let me know...
