I was just wondering how much difference there is when using a regular insert and using the comp insert.
thanks,

I am not nearly the wealth of information on this as some as the others on the site, but the flare on the barrel is bored out more. This makes it louder, and changes the amount of pressure needed. I think this is do to the amount of air that it holds in the barrel and it reloads faster.

Just my opinion though.

I see you are in central kansas. Where at? I live in eastern kansas, but am in Great Bend once a month at least in the off season.

I know it helps with the volume of the call, but is there a considerable difference in anything else that would make it worth spending the $80 on.
Thanks,
Jordan

The Contest insert is most deffinatly louder, BUT, it still has great hold. It is an easy call to keep pressurized, and has great tone overall. I love mine. If you are looking for a SUPER LOUD call...that will feather down and get soft and low, This is it.

I am currently in Lawrence, KS going to school, but I am from Kingman, KS.

If you want to blow one and see for yourself, Let me know and you can come on over to Topeka and blow one. Bring your bell and we'll swap out the stoppers.

Sounds good. Do you do a lot of hunting up around this area?

what is this "a lot" that you speak of? Just kidding. I do some. Mostly late season though. I got a honey hole for geese. It is the first field seen for 3 different roosts, and 2 loafing "places". 2 of them are a mile apart. With me in the middle. the other 3 are 2 miles apart, and all the birds fly right over me, or within a mile in any direction. It is a late season x. Other then that it is traffic. Unless there is a good freeze. then it is on!

I from Great bend so I spend almost every weekend from September 1 - end of December on leases outside quivera or cheyenne bottoms. But, there are the occasional ones here.

I take it you are going to school in Lawrence? If you ever want to hook up I am sure we can work something out.

That would be awesome. How was hunting around quivira, this last season. I saw on the waterfowl report they had a lot of birds up there.

It was good. REAL good. We have a duck lease west of there. Irrigated millet ponds with pit blinds. We do quite well. Last season we (2 of us) were averaging 18 birds a weekend (24 bird weekend limit) with a goose or 3 mixed in occasionally. Our problem is we are there for the hunt more then the harvest so we pass on a lot of good shots to watch the birds work. Then they get skittish, pushed out by another pit, or land between groups. Or, we kick out early to get to the wheat field to sit up on the return geese or to hang out with my son. It's all fun though, and we shoot more then our fair share of birds. Oh, and we miss a few every now and again also.

We have extra lay-outs. If you are in school I don't know what you travel with so all you would need would be warm clothes. I am sure we could even round up a fire-arm if you needed it. Typically they are evening afternoon hunts (so you can still party the nifght before. we do) as that always seem to be what works best for that field. We'll go drop 5 or 6 decoys in the field in the morning and leave them there while we scout around in the area counting and watching birds. Then go back in and pick up before we head into to grab lunch. Back out around 2:30. sit up and wait a couple hours. Pick up a couple birds in that time, but it is slow. THEN comes the last half hour. Hang on to your but as it happens fast! They stop over that field for 2 things... 1 a last minute snack before roost. or they fly over almost to get those birds off the field to come roost with them. Don't know if they really do that or not though.

You're already getting me hyped up for next season. Man if you don't mind another person tagging along I would love to come with you guys sometime. Dont worry about gear, I always take my gear with me if it's Kingman or Lawrence. I always have my SBE and my blind with me.
Thanks

excellent.

We have more then enough decoys. But are still going to get more this off-season.

The best part about this place is we drive the trailer in. Unless it is muddy. I am pretty sure it will be beans next year, but we through enough dec's to sweet talk em in. We are also working on another field, but it may have issues as the next door neighbor skybusts them out of the shelterbelt. but it is a half section field. Last year the birds would land in that far corner regardless of that though.

Keep me in mind and we'll get it figured out.
