Hey Guys,

Was down in Texas County, Missour turkey hunting on Saturday. It was raining a little bit and I was sitting at the base of a hill overwatching a creek bottom and field. About 6:40 am I started in on some calling and from behind me I hear something come out of a tree. I started to think it was maybe some turkeys coming off roost but it landed with an earth shaking thud and I looked over to see a pretty good sized Mountain Lion at about 15 yards!!! There had been reports of seeing them and seeing baby calves taken down by what looked like Mtn lion attacks. Well I didnt waste any time showing him who was at the top of the food chain in the woods that morning and fired my Federal 3 1/2" 5 shot in his general direction. I didnt want to put him down and deal with the DNR and explaining the whole story. I think he thought a hen turkey would have made a good breakfast and when he landed he looked around and spotted me when I moved. That was when I shot and he ran off. Pretty good sized tracks to him too. I had to run back to the cabin and wipe a few times. Anyone have an extra side arm you could loan a guy, plan on going out there again next weekend

I know what you're talking about. I live in central illinois and i know a lot of people that say they have seen them. I never have seen one yet, but i have seen what i thought were cougar tracks. I have a good friend who refuses to go into the woods mushrooming without a gun, especially when he has his kids with him. I was told by a few people that the dnr released some years back to try to control the deer population, but they have never fessed up to it. check out this link, this is a guy I know that found this one dead, he lives near the illinois and iowa border.

Holy Crap!!!! I am shaking my head as I type this.Man could you think what would've happened if he would have been stalking your butt! What the hell is wrong with the DNR? I have an uncle who lives in the UP of Michigan ,and he swears he has seen their tracks up their too. The MDNR won't fess up about sightings up their either.Unbelieveable!
