The school councilor suggested out son take the ACT exam this spring.

He is in 8th grade.

They said it is the best way to monitor if he is learning anything.

Seems nutz to me

It really doesn't sound like a bad idea to me to be honest with you. I took it for the first time in 10th grade and it really gave me a big heads up as to what stuff was important, etc. When I was in 8th grade they had us take the P-ACT (Pre-Act).....this was a huge waste of 30 bucks or whatever it costed. I remember they offered that and a P-SAT and it was so misleading. I don't know if they created them as a confidence builder or what, but even the stupidest kids in the class were scoring REALLY high. If I were you, I'd have him take it and not worry what the score might come out as, but rather just use it as a tool to open his eyes a little bit perhaps.
