View Full Version : Great Way to End the 07-08 Duck Season
Here in Michigan we have a two day late season that opens for ducks that always falls the first Saturday and Sunday in January. We were pretty worried about what the conditions of the river were going to be like, due to the 2 + feet of snow we got the week prior to hunting. We took our chances and the river was just right and the ducks were just right too. Me and my buddies got our limit of mallards and a MAJOR bonus of the day was my buddy shot a black duck (which wasn't his first, but had been YEARS) and about 5 minutes later a pair of black ducks came whizzing down river and I blasted one myself which was a first for me. I know in some parts of the country a black duck is no big deal, but here in Michigan it is to us, not to mention getting 2! It was a great day to finish off the duck season with 2 great friends and some great late season action.

Man I thought our late season blacks came down from you guys...guess not as many as I thought. I wouldn't say we get a lot but we shoot some every year. Nice limit and a great way to end the season.

I guess the East side of Michigan gets more frequent blacks over along Saginaw Bay and Lake Erie, but on the west side by me they are few and far between...at least for us...my good friend I was hunting with has owned or hunted the property for over 40 years, this was only his 5th or 6th black he could remember.

i know a great place to kill mallards (big), Blacks (big), and Goldeneyes (giant). the BW. we see them all the time in the summer. they supposidly hang around till the first week in October or until the first big push. its a drive but i can GURANTEE you will kill a Black.

I still owe ya a hunt from the awesome goose hunt you took me on last year, maybe next year you can swing up to Michigan and attempt to get some blacks....
This time of year we normally see alot of Goldeneyes, buffleheads, scaup, etc. but all it was, was all mallards and those blacks this year

Are you guys getting any geese down there?? I didn't get either of those damn jobs I applied for with the MDC, but I am hoping to get down there before goose closes...we're open till Feb. 3rd here, but the geese are in hiding somewhere.....our almost 3 feet of snow just melted in 2 days, but now we're supposed to get more this weekend.....I don't think the geese know which way to turn
