the only difference between the standard patternmaster and the extended patternmaster is that the standard tube is better for 2 3/4 and 3 inch shells and the extended tube works best with 3 inch and 3 1/2 inch shells.

i got an extended on the way for my super x2 :D but like matt said it depends on wheather your shottin 3.5s or 3s and under. they have the short range chokes as well which are considered the "over decoys" chokes.

I was just wondering b/c I was looking on the patternmaster website and I saw that the extended is better for 3 1/2 in. shells, which is mainly what I shoot. I have the standard right now and I was wondering if I should go ahead and buy the extended, since I mainly hunt over decoys.
Thanks,
Jordan

I use the extended with 3 1/2" BB, and I blow the geese apart...........

you can go buy the extended tube and there will be a little difference. your just gonna have to shoot your gun at difference yardage to see how both choke tubes pattern. but the extended tube is gonna be better for a 31/2" shell and longer shots. and your gonna have to see what shot size shoots best with your gun. i shot a winchester super x2 as well and my gun is a 3" gun. my gun patterns best with #2, #1, and BB's. the bigger shots work good for birds up close but i think the shot starts bouncing off each other and opens the pattern up on longer shots.

I know that DeMasters kid talks about em a lot. Ask him he knows everything about everything.

i think i would upgrade just for the simple fact that you mainly shoot 3.5s. even with the extended your still covered for 3 inch.

I bought the "Short Range, Over Decoys" tube for my Beretta Extrema 2, 26" barrel, and patterned it at 15, 25 and 35 yards respectively, using the following shells: 3" #4s and #2s; 3.5" #2s and BBs.

The only shell that really impressed me going through this tube was the 3" #4. I was able to kill a few Canadas last season while primarily hunting for ducks using 3" #4s but they were coming in, wings cupped. I also did comparisons with the stock Beretta tubes and was impressed with the Pattern Master but, again, the 3" #4 was the shining star at all of the above distances, even 35 yds.

I'm sort of a simpleton in that, if I have too many options in front of me (second gun, three different types of shells, etc.), I can't make a decision and keep switching back and forth; meanwhile, ducks are buzzing my blind, probably laughing at me.

For this next season, the 3" #4, with the "Short Range" tube will be the "simple" fit for me. I'll just have to make an effort to realize my limitations with this set up.
