I just traded a guy for timber rattler and it really seems to stick alot. Its a single reed, it does sound good when it isnt stickin, but when it sticks and squeels, not so good. Do I need to send it in or is there something that could be done to it

You probably spit in the call alot like most guys...including myself. Take a tip I picked up from the competitions....keep a dollar in your pocket and between birds use that dollar bill to soak up the spit between you reed and tone board. Just press it down against the cork and let it soak. It keeps you occupied between the killin'!

I am with super x2, I blow in the opposite end. I can't do the dollar thing ever since I went to a class with some public health people who showed us a statistical factthat 90% of all paper money is contaminated with fecal particals (POOP) I would try maybe an index card or piece of paper, just cant get past the fecal thing.

I've heard about that statistic...but the way I look at it is we all touch money in some fashion everyday and most of us don't go wash our hands right after. Sooner or later those hands touch something that goes in your mouth or you bite your nails or something. I don't lick my reed and tone board so i'll take my chances :). Needless to say it works. Do what ya gotta do to get 'em close!

Another trick that works pretty good is to use your call with the toneboard upsidedown when you blow. Gravity helps clear the spit as you call. I do this if I'm having to feed chuckle real heavy cuz I spit like crazy when I do that.

that works really well to...but i'm like you krees...i spit like a mad man! But it's amazing how dry you can get when you step onto a competition stage. If I only had that problem in the duck blind I wouldn't be spending half a day dryin' out my reeds!

I think after time and once you get it broke in you will be ok. I do what Krees suggests when I am calling alot.
You may have a tight reed that you can loosen up a bit just by pulling up on it slightly but don't over bend it or put too much pressure on it.

That is so right. An hour before the comp you are drooling, but when you are the next caller nawthin. what you can also do is slightly sand the tone board every once and awhile. this help it give it less surface area with the ripples and it doesn't stick too much. just dnt do it too much. with the fecal thing and money i usually dont have to worry about that because either i have no money or i forget to take my wallet out of my pockets before they get washed.
