After looking at all the different lanyards out their, I decided to try to make my own. So ordered up some parachute cord, and surfed the net looking for a sight that would show you how to tie the different knots. So yesterday I sat down for several hours with the parachute (550) cord and did it. It was kind of fun, but more tedious, and painful on the fingers. I think I will make another one for my duck calls, and maybe one for each of my kids, and be done with ever doing again
Here are a couple of pics, sorry about the quallity, the batteries in my camera where dead, so I took these with my video camera, and it doesn't doe to well
Let me know what you think.

I looked into doing that myself two off seasons ago. I practiced on some cord laying around and got flat worn out doing it. Decided my time was worth more then what I was going to spend ordering one. So I called Bartman and got one.
CONGRATS on seeing it all the way through. It looks GREAT!

Jeff, I would definitely like to know where you got the info also. I would love to make a few for myself, same way it is much more rewarding to do it yourself. Thanks, Matt

a google search on Round Braid or square braid will give you more sites then you can imagine for instruction. there are 4 , 6 , and 8 strand types. There are sites that show the transition between the round and the flat. Lots of good info out there.
Para cord can be found at your local military surplus store.

I got the info on the braiding techniques from a website called www.boondoggleman.com I found this website on another post about lanyard making over at the Duckhunters refuge forum. I got the paracord from Barre ArmyNavy store, I found it buy googleing paracord and it is in the top of the list.
It is rewarding but very tedious, took about 6 hours or so from start to finish, I would recomend you practice first with some spare cord.
Oh and thank you for your compliments, and no I am not taking orders  I have blisters from making the first one.

I hear you Jeff, I started practicing on some cord and braided for about an hour and my hands are all sore and blistered, and I haven't even started on the actual lanyard yet! What stitch is your lanyard you have pictured?

Hoosierhunter,
The stitch I used on this one is a Round Stitch, I have since built a Cobra stitch one for my duck calls, it came together much faster than the round stitch. I am thinking I may try a square stitch one for my son's calls. I look forward to seeing how everyone elses turn out, and if I can help anyone get started from finding directions for the different stitches or finding the supplies, let me know. Any one know where I can find custom engraved bands for the lanyards, starting to think about maybe producing a very small quanity of made to order lanyards.
Here are two new Pics:

Duck lanyard looks good! How did you join at the bottom? As far as the engraved bands, don't know. Maybe check with a local trophy shop for engraving.

Yeah How do ya join at the bottom and how do you add the drops in?

Hoosier, the lanyard was joined together by first tying the two ends together, then doing what is called a King cobra stitch back over it. I couldn't think of any other way to join them together.
