I have the opportunity to get a Strait Street off of someone at a really good price, but I was concerned about it being too loud for the field. So I guess my question is just that, is it too loud to use in the field?

I use my SS in the field all the time. In a lot of cases it is my go-to call. I hunt a pretty wide open area & i use the hail call a lot and it is perfect for that & it gets just as quiet as you want it to when the birds get in close. I am very happy with the way it has performed in the field. I would highly recomend that you pick it up & if you dont like it, you could always sell it on here in the yard sale.

Hunting down here in Texas my go to is the Strait Street. Talk about screamin across the lake and actually finishing the birds with the call as well. Just last week hunting the river valley in Kansas it was able to pull birds coming off the roost that were heading south. Clear, clean and very controllable.

If the ducks are flying into a 30mph wind you need them to listen up.

I went ahead and got the Strait Street. Its a black/smoke single reed. I figured I can't really not like it and if for some reason I do I can always trade it off. Unfortunately I won't know till next season how well it works in the field.

i'm already on edge for next season...the SS is pretty sweet sounding it shows a decent amount of wear but I got a great deal on it from my buddy...when i got it in the mail i made the mistake of starting a hail call in my truck and my ears rang for about 5 minutes
