I love to bow fish. I have a Martin warthog bow and an AMS retriver that I am very happy with. I use a 16' flat bottom boat and fish the local resivor. My buddies and myself usually fish 2 to 3 times a week and I can't wait till spring to get here.

Bowfishing is awesome,a real fun hobby.I use an old Pearson recurve w/ a Muzzy fish arrow.Usually just wade or shoot out of a jon boat, nothing fancy here.

I do the same as SD just shoot a recurve with a muzzy arrow, I can't use my compound because of the rest set up the fiberglass fishing arrows are really heavy.....I also usually just wade out on some flats...when the grass carp some in to spawn in the spring they get pretty thick and aren't' hard to find...if the waters deeper we sometimes use just a little jon with either electric or a small gas motor....its a blast

thats cool that there are some fellow members of team carpslayer on the forum.

I use a hoyt eclipse with an ams retriver and a wisker biscuit rest. i shoot muzzy points with a gar tip on a yellowjacket shaft with cableing and uni nock adaptors.
in my opinion the best arrow setup out there. www.sullysbowfishing.com is a great site to buy bowfishing related items. my whole arrow setup i just mentioned cost me about twenty bucks there.

I also run a 12 foot flatbottom(I'll post pics once i get some on my digital camera) wtih either a 3.3 merc or a 55 lb thrust min-kota trolling motor.

the boat is a 18 foot flat bottom with a 115 hp yamaha motor this thing scoots. All alluminum platform with the ability to hook up seven flood lights for night bow fishing. The boat is great for shallow water and it keeps me on the water when there is no ducks and geese to shoot. We have put a lot of fish in this thing.
I shoot a mathews sportsman and my partner shoots a Onieda osprey they are some fish sticking machines.

I have no idea how you can touch those things. They are so nasty, all I ever do it losten my tip, turn the prongs up, pull it out and kick the bitch on shore, or back into the water its its a gut shot.

depends i guess on what kind of bow you wanna shoot this recurve kit is nice for beginers cause itcomes with everything...http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/links/link.jsp?id=0004395416826a&type=product&cmCat=SEARCH&returnPage=search-results1.jsp&QueryText=bowfishing&N=4887&Ntk=Products&Ntx=mode+matchall&Nty=1&Ntt=bowfishing&noImage=0

But if you want a cheap compound you can go to a pawn shop or check craigs list.

Any old bow will do the trick.... You may not want to take your Mathews in but thats my opinion.

I shoot an old Martin compound with a cheap arrow and reel. It does the job and I get a few carp a year.

i got my bow at a flea market for 25 bucks so if you have any around check them out first or try the classifieds.

you'll want to be pulling at least 35 lbs but the heavier the better. this is because as soon as the arrow hits the water it will start to plane to the surface. the more weight you pull the less this will affect your shots.

another thing you absolutley need to know is that water reflects light. this means you see the fish closer to the surface than it actually is. my expericnce is to try to shoot about an inch low for every foot of water the fish is in. (of course you will have to guess the depth on quick shots.)
for example if i see a carp in three feet of water and i want to shoot it in the middle of the face i must aim just under the chin. if i aim directly where i want to hit, the arrow will most likely coast over the head and i will miss.

The absolutle most important thing you need is POLARIZED LENSES!!! regular sunglasses will not work. polarized lenses have a special film that takes glare off the water. if you can't see the fish, you can't shoot it, plain and simple. you can find a cheap pair at wal-mart or anywhere else that sells shades. my old man even has polarized clip-on lenses for his glasses.
You wouldn't believe the difference it makes...

i would also reccomend putting no-glov on your bowstring if you are not going to use a release. it's very easy on your fingers and it prevents the bowstring from twisting during the draw. i don't think a release helps at all with bowfishing but thats just me talkin.

You may not want to take your Mathews in but thats my opinion..Anything with little or no let off will do for shooting fish my mathews has a sprtsman cam so there is no let off bowfishing is what the bow is made for. Yes an absolute must is a good pair of polorized glasses they are priceless. We shoot a lot of tournaments in the spring and summer so we need to have some equipment to rely on.

I guess I was referring to the fact you may not want to take your 1000 dollar bow out into the creek/lake/wherever you carp hunt.
