Well guys, the season is probaly over here in Minnesota for geese, we will probaly not be seeing anymore.
I want to get practicing, and get equipment for the next season, and be able to kill some.
However my skills and information on the hutning geese is low.
Ive watched all of the fallen skies, and begun to learn setups, and calling techniques.
I would like to know more, and types of fields are best for certain times in the year, and also what is best for finding places to hunt. Decoy setups, etc.
Thanks any info will be Wanted.

The number one way to find out what kind of field to use is scouting. You need to know what field the birds want to be in and then go from there. Yes it is ture you can pull traffic birds (I would still want to be in the same type of field they were feeding in for traffic birds) but there is no substitute for the x. :)
For my setups, I try and match the flocks I am seeing. Early season this can mean one dozen full bodies setup in two family groups. Later in the year bigger setups seem to give the migrators more confidence. I still try and setup a main group of geese with a few smaller family groups around the edge and up wind.

Find the fields that the geese are using and get permission. You can pull in some birds on the way to these fields if you can't get that particular one. Early season keep your groups small, make small family groups for your set up, use your goose flag to draw some of the distant birds around. If they want to be in that field, then they will come. Later on in the season I begin to use more dekes, put them around your blind to break yourself up, make a nice landing area for them and don't forget to play the wind. I hunt everything from cornfields, hay fields, cut green fields even plowed wheat fields. Good luck to you and scout , scout, scout, then scout some more.
