picked up another t/r the other day used from a guy. the insert goes in almost 1/4 inch further then my other 2 t/r's. also makes a clicking noise when wigglin the insert. been havin problems with it sticking real bad do to the reeds being closer to the end of the barrel {i think is the reason }.i have put new reeds in with same results. so do u think i need a new barrel or insert. i haven't noticed any cracks or anything and even if i try i cant get the other 2 to stick. any suggestions.

I don't mean to insult your knowledge of the calls, but are you sure it is a TR insert? I purchased a used SMM that had a TR insert in it. It wasn't until I got a second SMM to compare it to that I noticed the difference. Check the inserts against each other and see.

As for the sticking, try giving the call a good cleaning with warm water and see if that doesn't help. Lots of sticking problems are derived from "gunk" built up in the call. If that doesn't get it fixed shoot me a pm and I'll try to help.

I had a TR that was just the opposite. It didn’t go in as far, and just enough to seal off the wedge area. It was a TR insert as best I could tell and fit just fine in my other TR's. It was the barrel that was different. Smaller bore or something. I sent it to the shop and it came back the same way.

I would suggest you send it to the shop with a detailed letter and let them look at it in hand. This would be the best way to get an accurate answer.

Is the call wood? I have seen wood calls have various tolerances.

the call is all acrylic, i've compared the insert with the other t/r's i have and there the same insert. it's weird cause the insert fits rite with other barrels and the other inserts fit rite in the barrel i'm haveing probs with.i've cleaned everything including the reeds with water then rubbing alcohol, i spit in the call alot and i'm sure that dosent help much with the reeds being closer to my mouth.thanks for the suggestions i think i'll send it in when i get the cash. i got it off a guy that was in a gander mt store for $50.00 , it's a max-4 and has no wear and blew good for the short cycle that i blew in it. maybe he had the same problem and thats why he got rid of it.
