I have been seeing a pair of snows all the time just outside springfield on a industrial facility's pond. We have a ton of resident canadas in the area, but have never heard of resident snows, anyone else seen this? I need to take my camera with me and get a few pics of them.

probably domestics, or whatever canadas are called when their plumage is super light, i cant remember the name.

That is what I thought at first but I got a closer look, and they are Snows. Same bill, same black wing tips, same legs, same beedy little black eye. I am guessing it is a just a pair that became to lazy to migrate so they are hangin out with the local Canadas and Ducks.

Jeff,
I got one on the North end of Lake Springfield, An Eagle headed Blue thats a left over from Season a couple years ago. Never have sen him fly but always around and healthy looking.
I suspect yours either are or were crips that were not able to go north. Them White birds got beat up pretty fair when they were here.

sometime birds do really weird things, up here in central MN i found multiple groups of nesting buffle heads and blue bills in shallow small ponds nesting where mallards and normal puddle ducks nest

I seen a pair here about a month ago, and asked my cousin who works for the DNR and he said they are probably a non-breeding pair who just didn't follow the rest.

I have seen small groups and pairs in southeast Iowa around Ft. Madison clear into the end of April and early June but I don't think they stick around. They are just really late flyers I think.
