I was up at my place putting a new roof on one of my blinds and i saw a bunch maybe 500-700 of em migrating up nort. Man it was tempting with them flying so low and slow but i heard they dont eat too good. Anyone else seeing em flying through? It was my first time and i wasnt aware that they did infact migrate.

Haha nasty lookin things. Where do you live?
What you are seeing in Central, MO is the American white pelican. They are a colony nesting bird like the blue heron and breed in the Boreal Regions of the U.S. I am right along the IL River near Havana which is farther north than you and see a couple thousand a day.
On the east and west coast they have the BROWN pelican, this pelican DOES NOT come inland, but the White pelican is found inland 90% of the time.

We have tons of the white pelicans around here all spring and summer long, they sure put a hurt on the all of the hatchery trout that are stocked in many of the surrounding lakes and ponds.I have personally watched as groups of 40-50 form a semi circle and corral fish into the shallows and belly up to the buffet.

I have shot several hundred of them in Boliva. They taste like shrimp down there. Lots of lead to bring them down also.

I worked in MO for a year, saw them everyday during the fall and spring migration....most people see them from a distance and think they are swans or snow geese......

I just saw a few hundred migrating over our house the other day. they were real high and when I first saw the color i thought maybe they were snow geese a little off track but they were gliding and you could see their funny necks.

Is that sanctioned? Ya don't hear too much about duck calling in Florida.....Trevor if you blow clean, I bet you'd get the big W.
As for the pelicans, they are everywhere here in the summer/early fall. A couple hundred of them will get up off the water, fly really high into the air, and them just cyclone back down to the water....does anyone know why? Are they just keeping their wings strong for the migration or are they just plain stupid?
Also, saw a dead one up close during the early goose opener a few years ago....I swear the things's damn beak had to have been 2 feet long.....they can prolly swallow 5 lb. carp whole.
