How do you guys setup decoys on a day where u have essentially no wind. yes i kno there is always air movement to some extent but on the day where you can throw grass up and it falls straight down. Would a layout in the shape of an X be the best? My second question would be, wat do you do as far as calling when you have a bird/birds coming that are not makin any noise? just simple clucks and moans? just curious as to how others deal with this.

normally, we use a five of diamonds. we have 60 dekes so we use 5 groups of 12. we normally put the blinds towards the front of the spread so no matter where the geese land, someone has a shot. then, we turn the blinds after we see how the first flock works.
as for calling, we just do a few clucks. we try to stay off them as much as possible.
hope this helps

hey snow shooter could you possibly build that spread at the goose refuge's spread builder program. I've not heard of that spread but it sounds killer.

If you know where the geese will be coming from (majority anyway)
then set up regularly, U facing where they are coming from, and they should drop right in.
Otherwise hit them good with the calling and put'm where you want'm
Two big groups with a landing strip right down the middle, usually they like being in between, set guys on each side and plowem.

We essentially do the same as calling4life...set the dekes up so the pocket is essentially facing the birds as they come in, so theoretically they can just come in and drop. If that doesn't work, we immediatley change the layout of our spread after the first flock.
As far as calling goes, we do as little as possible. We do this for a couple reasons, #1 being we are just average callers and #2, after limiting out once, we stayed in the blinds and let birds come in, the ones on the ground never called at all to incoming birds.
I seen Sean Mann's Outdoors once, and he said that if he is in a destination field, where the birds want to be, he won't call at all. I am sure that changes if the birds start to veer off to leave.
